Problems addressed:
Corrosion, electrical contact resistance, sliding wear and environmental exposure. Conductive coatings and insulating coatings serve different purposes; fuel-cell and hydrogen components require design-specific qualification. Motor stator windings require electrical insulation systems rather than general metal coatings.

Suitable worn surfaces can be undercut, built up and finish-machined or ground back to specified dimensions. Inspection requirements may include coating thickness, surface roughness, bore size, roundness, concentricity and runout.
Cracked or broken parts require structural evaluation before surface restoration. Coatings are selected to solve a defined problem.

ENGINEERED COATINGS,
DIMENSIONAL RESTORATION & PRECISION FINISHING
RESTORE DIMENSIONS. IMPROVE RELEASE. PROTECT PERFORMANCE.
The right surface treatment starts with your material, operating conditions and the problem you need to solve.
WORN SHAFTS, JOURNALS & BEARING FITS
Restoration options:
• Hard chrome plating — controlled buildup with a hard, grindable surface for suitable shafts, journals, plungers and hydraulic components.
• Electroless nickel plating — uniform deposition on compatible components and complex geometries; suitable for selected dimensional corrections.
• Thermal-sprayed steel or stainless steel — restorative buildup for suitable worn journals, rollers, sleeves and bearing areas.
• HVOF tungsten carbide — hard, wear-resistant protection for suitable seal journals, sleeves and demanding contact surfaces.
Typical parts:
Shafts, bearing seats, seal journals, sleeves, rollers, idlers, plungers and selected housing bores.
Restoration sequence:
Inspect the component, assess damage, undercut where required, prepare the substrate, apply the engineered buildup and finish-machine or grind to specified dimensions.
Substantial dimensional loss may require a restorative metal layer beneath the final wear-resistant coating.
ABRASION, EROSION & REPEATED WEAR
Coating options:
• Tungsten carbide–cobalt (WC-Co) — hard protection for selected abrasion and wear applications.
• Tungsten carbide–cobalt–chromium (WC-CoCr) — wear protection with improved corrosion resistance compared with some cobalt-only systems.
• Chromium carbide–nickel chromium (Cr3C2-NiCr) — selected elevated-temperature wear and erosion applications.
• Chromium oxide ceramic — selected seal, roller and wear surfaces.
• PVD titanium nitride (TiN) — thin, hard protection for compatible tooling.
• PVD chromium nitride (CrN) — selected wear, corrosion and release applications.
Typical parts:
Pump sleeves, seal surfaces, impellers, mixer components, rollers, cutting tools, punches and dies.
Performance depends on more than hardness. Impact, operating temperature, lubrication, coating adhesion and mating surfaces also influence service life.
POWDER STICKING, PICKING & TABLET RELEASE
Coating options:
• Chromium nitride (CrN) — selected tablet-tooling applications requiring release, wear and corrosion performance.
• Zirconium nitride (ZrN) — selected anti-stick and corrosion-resistant tooling applications.
• Titanium nitride (TiN) — wear protection for abrasive formulations; release performance requires application-specific testing.
• Specialized titanium nitride or chromium nitride systems — engineered for compression tooling and formulation-specific release.
• Electroless nickel–PTFE — a nickel matrix containing PTFE for selected lubricity and release applications.
Typical parts:
Tablet punches, dies, feed components and compatible powder-contact surfaces.
Picking around lettering and engraving can involve tooling geometry, surface condition, moisture and formulation. Trials using your actual product help identify the appropriate surface preparation and coating combination.
NONSTICK PROCESSING & REDUCED BUILDUP
Coating options:
• PTFE coatings — selected nonstick and low-friction processing applications.
• PFA coatings — selected release and chemical-barrier applications.
• FEP coatings — selected release applications within the coating system’s operating limits.
• Electroless nickel–PTFE — selected components requiring a metallic coating with lubricity.
Typical parts:
Chutes, hoppers, guides, sealing jaws, rollers and compatible product-contact components.
Selection considers abrasion, temperature, cleaning chemicals, coating thickness, substrate condition and product-contact requirements. Improved release can reduce buildup and cleaning interruptions when confirmed through testing.
CORROSION PROTECTION & LONGER STORAGE
Treatment options:
• High-phosphorus electroless nickel — selected applications requiring corrosion-resistant metallic protection.
• Anodizing — protective surface treatment for compatible aluminum alloys.
• Hard anodizing — selected aluminum components requiring additional wear resistance.
• Stainless steel passivation — removes free-iron contamination and supports the stainless surface’s corrosion resistance.
• Epoxy or polyurethane systems — protective finishes for suitable frames, housings and exterior equipment surfaces.
• Powder coating — protective and cosmetic finishing for suitable noncritical surfaces.
Longer storage protection also depends on cleaning, drying, handling and packaging. Coating selection must account for humidity, chemical exposure and storage conditions.
SANITARY SURFACES & EASIER CLEANING
Finishing options:
• Mechanical sanitary polishing — controlled finishing to specified surface roughness and acceptance requirements.
• Electropolishing — controlled material removal that reduces microscopic surface peaks on suitable alloys.
• Passivation — supports corrosion resistance on properly prepared stainless steel.
• Mirror polishing — highly reflective finishing where appropriate for the application.
Typical parts:
Filling nozzles, sanitary fittings, manifolds, mixer components, tanks and product-contact surfaces.
Sanitary suitability requires more than shine. Surface roughness, pits, crevices, weld condition and cleanability must satisfy the application.
Finishing does not automatically eliminate every microscopic defect.
COSMETIC FINISHES & SPECIALTY PLATING
Finishing options:
• Decorative anodizing — specified color and appearance on suitable aluminum.
• Powder coating and industrial painting — selected colors, textures and protective finishes.
• Mirror or satin polishing — controlled appearance and surface consistency.
• Gold plating — specified electrical contacts, connectors and selected decorative components.
• Nickel plating — selected functional and cosmetic applications.
Finish selection considers appearance, exposure, handling, coating thickness and dimensional requirements.
PRECISION AFTER COATING
Coating thickness belongs in the dimensional plan.
We account for buildup before processing, protect critical areas through masking and finish suitable surfaces by machining, cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, honing, lapping or polishing.
Final requirements may include:
• Diameter and bore size
• Bearing and seal fits
• Roundness and cylindricity
• Concentricity and runout
• Surface roughness
• Remaining coating thickness
The target is the specified nominal dimension within the agreed tolerance. Required fits and surface finishes are established before processing.
INSPECTION, TESTING & APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
Every coated part goes through our inspection and testing process, with checks selected for the application.
Depending on the specification, evaluation may include dimensions, coating thickness, surface roughness, visual condition and coating-property testing. Certain tests require representative coupons or sample components rather than destructive testing of finished parts.
Where required, R&D trials use your actual product to evaluate sticking, release, buildup, cleaning and operating performance.
Higher machine speeds, improved product consistency, longer service life and reduced downtime are goals established through application-specific testing.
BROKEN PARTS & STRUCTURAL EVALUATION
Plating and coatings restore suitable surfaces. Cracked, fractured or severely damaged components may require welding, engineering review or replacement before coating. Surface buildup alone does not restore structural integrity.
